Whether for beginners, families with small kids, hobby or professional skiers, there are different skiing possibilities in the neighbourhood, offering the ultimate alpine skiing experience.
GROSSECK-SPEIERECK
The skiing area Grosseck-Speiereck is only 1 km away from our apartment. Grosseck-Speiereck is a family-friendly skiing area with quality and can be accessed from Mauterndorf as well as from St. Michael. A total of 50 kilometers of slopes at up to 2,400 m above sea level & perfectly groomed and varied slopes of all levels of difficulty ensure skiing pleasure in the Lungau mountains.
FANNINGBERG
The Fanningberg ski resort (13 minutes drive) is very suitable for families & beginners. After practicing at the people movers, beginners can progress to the 2 practice lifts (tow lifts) with flat slopes. Even the chairlifts provide access to easy slopes that lead down to the base. The 24 km of slopes (thereof 11 km easy) are all wide and very well prepared.
OBERTAUERN
After 15 mins drive (by car or public bus) you arrive at Obertauern ski resort being one of Austria's most snow sure, non-glacier skiing areas. The village of Obertauern is over 1600m elevation, it provides 26 lifts and 100 km of slopes. Being one of the steepest Slopes in the alps, Gamsleiten II is a challenge for every advanced skier.
KATSCHBERG-AINECK
10 minutes away from Mauterndorf, winter sports enthusiasts can enjoy their turns here on 70 kilometres of alpine slopes of all levels of difficulty. In the ski area, everyone will find the right winter sports terrain for themselves - whether beginner, advanced or professional. The perfectly groomed and varied slopes are guaranteed to snow thanks to the latest snow-making technology. From the valley stations of Katschberg and St. Margarethen, 16 modern lifts take winter sports enthusiasts to Aineck (2,220 metres) and Tschaneck (2,030 metres), the two mountains in the ski area.
